A Message from the Assistant Director

Hi everyone! My name is Sydney Bobb, and this year, I’m so blessed to be serving as Ignite Texas’ Assistant Director. As the 2017 Ignite Texas retreat comes around in August, it will be my fourth year serving Ignite in some capacity and fifth year to attend camp. It’s insane to think that I’ve spent about a fifth of my life in this organization that has helped so many students get connected to the Body of Christ at UT. Ignite Texas was founded in 2002 as an organization called Hook Up. I believe the founders were going for a play on the phrase “hook ‘em” at the time which led to that original name. Thankfully, (in my opinion), we changed our name to Ignite Texas a few years later. Although Ignite started small, God has been so faithful in providing the organization with staff and campers every year since our founding. Eventually, retreat had to split into two sessions to accommodate the number of campers we were receiving, creating two opportunities for campers to experience the Body of Christ at UT. For me, Ignite has been the highlight of my time at UT. I believe that my willingness to return and serve each year of my college career has been a testament to the community, spirit, and love of Christ that Ignite Texas cultivates. I also believe that if you ask any other staff members, they will say the same. Ignite Texas changed my life as a camper before my freshmen year. It was the first time I truly encountered Jesus and learned what it meant to be in a relationship with Him. Ignite Texas showed me what true Christian community looked like, and for that, I am forever thankful that God placed me in such a life-changing organization.
